Sacrament of Penance

The Sacrament of Penance is one of the least understood, and least utilized, sacraments in the Catholic Church. In reconciling us to God, it is a great source of grace, and Catholics are encouraged to take advantage of it often, even if they are not aware of having committed a mortal sin.

Catholic Priest

The Sacrament of Penance is often referred to as Reconciliation or even Confession.  These titles are all aspects of the meaning of the Sacrament.

The Sacrament of Penance is a celebration of God’s love and mercy. Its focus is the call to repentance after the person has undergone a conversion or change of heart.

The sacramental process includes confessing our sins and receiving the forgiveness of God through the ministry of the priest. Through this process, a person is reconciled with the Church and continues to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ.
